- Alkaline pH stabilizer: Enhances surfactant performance.  

Note: Banned/reduced in some regions due to eutrophication concerns (e.g., EU phosphate-free detergent regulations).  

2. Food Industry (E451 Additive) 

- Moisture retention: Preserves tenderness in processed meats (sausages, ham), seafood, and canned products.
