Triptorelin Overview

Definition:
Triptorelin is a synthetic analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) that acts as a GnRH agonist. It is used primarily in the treatment of hormone-sensitive conditions by regulating the release of certain hormones.

Function:
Triptorelin works by initially stimulating the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), followed by a long-term suppression of these hormones. This leads to a significant reduction in the production of sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen, making it effective for managing hormone-driven conditions.

Applications:

· Prostate cancer: Used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer by lowering testosterone levels, which can fuel cancer growth.

· Endometriosis: Helps manage symptoms by reducing estrogen levels, thus slowing the growth of endometrial tissue.

· Uterine fibroids: Used to shrink fibroids by lowering estrogen levels.

· Precocious puberty: Treats early-onset puberty by delaying puberty until an appropriate age.
