Introduction:
Polysorbate 85, also known as polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan trioleate consists of sorbitol,  and oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C100H188O28. At room temperature, it is in the form of a pale-yellow to orange oily liquid. It is an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 11.0. It is soluble in ethanol; it is also soluble in most mineral and vegetable oil. And it can disperse in water. In  production, polysorbate 85 acts as emulsifier, paraffin inhibitor.

1.Food Industry

Serves as emulsifier, dispersant & anti-spattering agent for margarine, baked goods, ice cream, candy, and beverage concentrates; stabilizes oil-water mixed food systems to avoid layer separation.

2.Pharmaceutical Field

Used as solubilizer for oily fat-soluble drugs in oral liquids & injections; excipient for ointments/creams to improve drug spreadability; wetting agent for tablet granulation.

3.Cosmetics & Personal Care

Emulsifier in facial cream, lotion, hair conditioner, makeup; helps blend plant oils and aqueous raw materials, enhances product smoothness.

4.Industrial & Agricultural

1)Pesticide adjuvant: wetting/spreading agent for emulsifiable concentrate pesticides to boost absorption on crop leaves

2)Textile: fiber lubricant & antistatic additive

3)Paint/coating: pigment dispersant to prevent pigment agglomeration

5.Lab & Bio-Chemistry

Nonionic surfactant for biochemical extraction, cell lysis and lab reagent formulation.
