N-Acetyl lysylylcysteine amide is an effective, reversible, specific, and non-toxic tripeptide inhibitor of myeloperoxidase (MPO), composed of three amino acids, with closed ends at both ends of the peptide. N-Acetyl lysyllactone amide can effectively inhibit the production of toxic oxidants by MPO in vivo. N-Acetylyllysylcysteine amide reduces neuronal damage in the brain after stroke while preserving brain tissue and neural function. N-Acetyl lysylcysteine amide inhibits MPO dependent hypochlorite (HOCl) generation, protein nitration, and LDL oxidation.
