N-acetyl lysyltyrosylcysteine amide is an effective, reversible, specific, and non-toxic myeloperoxidase (MPO) tripeptide inhibitor. It is a peptide composed of three amino acids, with both ends of the peptide being blocked. N-acetyl lysyltyrosylcysteine amide can effectively inhibit the production of toxic oxidants by MPO in vivo. N-acetyl lysyltyrosylcysteine amide reduces neuronal damage in the brain after stroke while preserving brain tissue and neural function. N-acetyl lysyltyrosylcysteine amide inhibits MPO dependent hypochlorous acid (HOCl) production, protein nitration, and LDL oxidation.
