Troponin T2 (TNNT2) is a subunit of the troponin complex, a critical regulatory protein in cardiac and skeletal muscle contraction. Specifically, TNNT2 binds to tropomyosin, playing a key role in calcium-dependent regulation of muscle fiber interactions. In the heart, cardiac troponin T (cTnT), encoded by the TNNT2 gene, is a well-established biomarker for myocardial injury, particularly in diagnosing acute myocardial infarction. Antibodies targeting TNNT2 are essential tools in research and clinical diagnostics. They enable the detection and quantification of cTnT in blood samples via immunoassays, aiding in early diagnosis and risk stratification of heart disease.

TNNT2 antibodies also contribute to studying genetic cardiomyopathies, as mutations in TNNT2 are linked to hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies. These antibodies help characterize protein expression, localization, and post-translational modifications in disease models. Monoclonal antibodies are preferred for their specificity in distinguishing cTnT from skeletal muscle isoforms, minimizing cross-reactivity. However, challenges remain in standardizing assays due to heterogeneity in circulating cTnT fragments during cardiac injury. Ongoing research focuses on improving antibody sensitivity and developing point-of-care tests for rapid cardiac assessment. Overall, TNNT2 antibodies bridge basic research and clinical applications, enhancing our understanding and management of cardiac pathologies.
