CCNC (Cyclin C) is a regulatory protein belonging to the cyclin family, which plays critical roles in cell cycle progression and transcriptional regulation. Unlike classical cyclins that primarily regulate cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) during specific cell cycle phases, Cyclin C forms a complex with CDK8 or CDK19. functioning as part of the Mediator complex—a multi-protein assembly that modulates RNA polymerase II-dependent transcription. This Cyclin C-CDK8/19 module is involved in stress response pathways, influencing gene expression in reaction to DNA damage, oxidative stress, or nutrient deprivation. Studies suggest Cyclin C also participates in apoptosis under severe cellular stress by relocating to mitochondria to initiate programmed cell death.

CCNC antibodies are essential tools for investigating these diverse roles. They enable detection of Cyclin C expression levels, subcellular localization (nuclear vs. mitochondrial), and interactions with CDK8/19 or Mediator components. Dysregulation of Cyclin C has been implicated in cancers, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, making its study clinically relevant. For example, reduced Cyclin C levels correlate with poor prognosis in certain tumors, while its overexpression may protect against oxidative damage. Researchers employ CCNC antibodies in techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and ChIP-seq to explore its dual functions in transcription and stress signaling. Recent interest also focuses on targeting the Cyclin C-CDK8 axis for therapeutic intervention in cancer and inflammatory diseases.
