The PSMB4 antibody is a research tool used to detect the proteasome subunit beta type-4 (PSMB4), a critical component of the 26S proteasome complex responsible for targeted protein degradation in eukaryotic cells. PSMB4 encodes the β7 subunit of the 20S core particle, which forms the proteasome’s catalytic chamber. This subunit plays a role in the chymotrypsin-like activity of the proteasome, contributing to the cleavage of peptide bonds in ubiquitinated proteins marked for destruction. Dysregulation of PSMB4 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancers, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune conditions, due to its role in maintaining protein homeostasis and regulating cellular processes like apoptosis and immune response.

Antibodies targeting PSMB4 are widely used in Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence to study proteasome expression, localization, and activity in different tissues or disease models. They help researchers investigate how proteasome dysfunction contributes to pathological states or drug resistance, particularly in cancer therapies targeting the ubiquitin-proteasome system.
