CD46. also known as membrane cofactor protein (MCP), is a transmembrane regulatory protein widely expressed on nucleated human cells. It belongs to the complement regulatory protein family and plays a critical role in preventing unintended complement-mediated damage to host cells by binding to complement proteins C3b and C4b, facilitating their inactivation.
