CD62P, also known as P-selectin, is a cell adhesion molecule belonging to the selectin family. It is primarily expressed on activated platelets and endothelial cells, where it mediates leukocyte rolling and adhesion during inflammatory responses or thrombotic events. Structurally, CD62P is a transmembrane glycoprotein composed of an N-terminal lectin domain, an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain, multiple consensus repeat units, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic tail. It is stored in intracellular granules (Weibel-Palade bodies in endothelial cells and α-granules in platelets) and rapidly translocates to the cell surface upon activation by stimuli like thrombin, histamine, or cytokines.

CD62P antibodies are critical tools for detecting and quantifying P-selectin expression, serving as biomarkers for platelet activation and endothelial dysfunction in conditions such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis, sepsis, and ischemia-reperfusion injury. These antibodies enable researchers to study CD62P's role in cell-cell interactions through techniques like flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting. Therapeutic CD62P-targeting antibodies or inhibitors are also under investigation to mitigate pathological inflammation or thrombotic disorders by blocking leukocyte-platelet or leukocyte-endothelium interactions. Their development highlights CD62P's dual role as a mediator of both physiological hemostasis and pathological vascular inflammation.
