The IFITM2 antibody is a research tool designed to detect interferon-induced transmembrane protein 2 (IFITM2), a member of the IFITM family. IFITM proteins are crucial components of the innate immune system, playing a key role in restricting viral infections, particularly against enveloped viruses like influenza, dengue, and SARS-CoV-2. IFITM2 is induced by type I and type II interferons and localizes to endosomal and lysosomal membranes, where it disrupts viral entry by altering membrane fluidity or trapping viral particles.

Antibodies targeting IFITM2 are widely used in virology and immunology research to study its expression, subcellular localization, and interaction with viral or host proteins. They are essential for techniques like Western blotting, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry. IFITM2-specific antibodies also help investigate its role in disease contexts, such as cancer, where IFITM2 expression may correlate with tumor progression or immune evasion.
