L17E is an endosomal disintegrating peptide and a cationic amphipathic peptide with a sequence of 25 amino acids, exhibiting specific membrane lytic activity toward late endosomes (LE). L17E is internalized into cells and trafficked to LE. In the acidic environment of LE, L17E disrupts and lysed the LE membrane, leading to membrane rupture and the release of LE contents into the cytosol. L17E is used to study the role of endosomal protein trafficking pathways.
