Background

Ebolavirus GP gene produces two products: the full‑length transmembrane glycoprotein GP and secreted glycoprotein sGP. sGP is the primary gene product generated by transcriptional editing, sharing the N‑terminal 295 amino acids with GP. sGP is a secreted dimeric glycoprotein released from infected cells, it is believed to participate in viral immune evasion by acting as decoy antigen to sequester host anti‑GP antibodies. sGP may also modulate endothelial cell barrier integrity and contribute to the vascular leakage observed during Ebolavirus infection. BDBV (Bundibugyo ebolavirus) is one of five ebolavirus species pathogenic for human.
