Example 76 2-(oxazol-5-yl)phenol; [0410] A solution of the appropriate anisole derivative (2.52 mmol) in 48% HBr (5 mL) was stirred at 1 10 °C for 16 h. The solution was allowed to cool to room temperature and was poured into saturated NaHC03 (10 mL).The aqueous phase was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 x 30 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the crude residue, which was purified by column chromatography on silica gel to afford the desired product in 24% yield. NMR: 6.94 (d, 1 H, J = 8.4 Hz), 7.01 (t, 1 H, J = 7.6 Hz), 6.94 (t, 1 H, J = 8.4 Hz), 7.53 (s, 1H), 7.75 (d, 1H, J = 8.0 Hz), 7.53 (s, l H).
