Steps:

Compound 80.1. 3-Methoxypropanehydrazide. Into a 500-mL round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of methyl 3-methoxypropanoate (30.0 g, 254 mmol) in ethanol (100 mL) and hydrazine hydrate (24.7 mL, 507 mmol). The resulting solution was stirred overnight at 80 °C, then cooled and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 26.3 g (88%, crude) of the title compound as colorless oil.
