Example 4 3-(EthvIene-dioxy)-17α-hvdroxy-19-norpregna-5(10),9qi)-diene-20-one (VI)A suspension of compound of formula (VII) (80 g, 0.27 mol) in a mixture of IN hydrochloric acid (18 mL) and methanol (800 mL) was stirred at 20-25 0C for 40 min, then water of 10 °C (800 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 30 min. The precipitated crystalline product was filtered off, washed with water and dried at 60 0C to yield 73 g (95 %) of the title compound. The purity of the product was 98 % (according to HPLC). Melting point: 140-140 0C.; Example 13 3-(EthvIene-dioxy)-17α-hvdroxy-19-norpregna-5(10),9(ll)-diene-20-one (VI)A suspension of compound of formula (VII) (56 kg, 150 mol) in a mixture of IN hydrochloric acid (12.6 L) and methanol (560 L) was stirred at 20-25 0C for 40 min, then water of 10 °C (560 L) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 30 min. The precipitated crystalline product was filtered off, washed with water and dried at 60 0C to yield 51.1 kg (95 %) of the title compound. The purity of the product was 98 % (according to HPLC). Melting point: 140-140 0C.
