Steps:

1.A Step A: Preparation of ethyl 4-acetylbenzoate
To the solution of 4-acetylbenzoic acid (1000 g, 6.1 mol) in ethanol (2 L) was slowly added H₂SO₄(10 mL) at 0 C, and the mixture was refluxed at 80 C for 3 h. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue was extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous Na₂SO₄, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography with petroleum ether and ethyl acetate (10 :1) to afford ethyl 4-acetylbenzoateasa white solid (1077 g, 92%) .¹H NMR (CDCl₃, 600 MHz) δ: 8.11 (d, J = 7.6 Hz, 2H) , 7.99 (d, J = 7.7 Hz, 2H) , 4.39 (q, J = 7.0 Hz, 2H) , 2.63 (s, 3H) , 1.40 (t, J = 7.1 Hz, 3H) . MS (ESI, m/z) : 193.1 [M+H]⁺.
