2 4.5.2. Synthesis of N-(2-nitro-4-fluoro-5-chlorophenyl)acetamide (3)
To a cold (-4 °C) mixture of 70% nitric acid (18.2 mL) and concentrated sulfuric acid (18.2 mL), compound 2 (10 g, 0.05 mol) was added in small portions.
The mixture was stirred at 0 °C for 10 min and then at room temperature for further 30 min.
The acidic solution was then poured into ice-cold water.
The precipitates obtained were filtered off and washed thoroughly with ice-cold water.
Pale yellow colored desired product 3 was obtained (yield 90%, m.p. 106-108 °C).
