Steps:
Synthesis of sertraline via asymmetric hydrogenation of imine (S)-16f:
To a stirred saturated solution of HCl in CH3COOCH3 (4 M, 10 mL), (S,S)-17f (650 mg) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 6 h. The solvent were then evaporated in vacuum. The product was crystallised, filtered, and then washed twice with CH3COOCH3, giving the final product sertraline (500 mg) in 90% overall yield with >99% ee value.
