Commercial production begins with benzonitrile and thiophene based intermediates, which are converted into amidoximes and thiophene carboximidamides. These precursors undergo cyclisation reactions to form the 1,2,4 oxadiazole ring system, followed by coupling of the phenyl and thiophene groups to yield the disubstituted oxadiazole structure. The crude product is then purified by recrystallisation or solvent extraction to remove residual reactants and by products, producing a stable technical material. | [Mechanism of action]
