Tetraglyme Chemical Properties, Uses, Production
Description
Tetraglyme is a widely used family of saturated polyethers for increasing anion reactivity in a given system, thus affecting selectivity and reaction rates. It is one of the heavier ethylene oxide based glymes available commercially.
Characteristics
Tetraglyme is a polar aprotic solvent with excellent chemical and thermal stability.
Uses
Tetraglyme's high boiling point and stability makes it an ideal candidate for separation processes and high temperature reactions. TEGDME is also used in lithium-ion battery technology and combined with trifluoroethanol as a working pair for organic absorption heat pumps.
Safety
Tetraglyme is listed as a Substance of Very High Concern under REACH regulations.
