Uses

2-Ethoxynaphthalene-1-carboxylic Acid is used in the synthesis of various antistaphylococcic penicillins.

Synthesis

The synthesis method of 2-ethoxy naphthalene carboxylic acid includes the following steps:

1) dissolve 2-hydroxy-1-naphthalene carboxaldehyde in anhydrous ethanol, reflux the reaction in the presence of catalyst hydrated sodium bisulfate, recycle part of the ethanol, and precipitate 2-ethoxy-1-naphthalene carboxaldehyde by pouring the remaining solution into purified water;

2) add 2-ethoxy-1-naphthalene carboxaldehyde to acetone, warming up Dissolve, alkaline conditions add hydrogen peroxide reaction, recovery of acetone, acid precipitation of 2-ethoxy naphthalene carboxylic acid white crystalline solid.
