Production Methods
Tiocarbazil is commercially produced for agricultural use through the synthesis of thiocarbamate esters, typically involving the reaction of secondary amines with carbon disulphide and benzyl halides under controlled conditions. Its production begins with the formation of a thiocarbamate intermediate by reacting di-sec-butylamine with carbon disulphide, followed by esterification using benzyl chloride or similar benzylating agents to yield tiocarbazil.
Hazard
Moderately toxic by skin contact. Low toxicity by ingestion.
Mechanism of action
Selective. Its primary pesticide mode of action is the inhibition of lipid synthesis, which disrupts the formation of plant cell membranes and cuticular waxes.
