PROSULFOCARB Chemical Properties, Uses, Production
Uses
Prosulfocarb is a pesticide used in the protection of crops such as barley for its herbicidal activity.
Production Methods
Prosulfocarb is commercially produced via a two-step process starting from diisopropylamine, which is reacted with carbon disulphide in the presence of sodium hydroxide in aqueous or toluene medium at to form sodium diisopropylcarbamodithioate. This intermediate is then alkylated with benzyl chloride in a phase-transfer catalysed system, yielding prosulfocarb.

Air & Water Reactions
Thio and dithiocarbamates slowly decompose in aqueous solution to form carbon disulfide and methylamine or other amines. Such decompositions are accelerated by acids.
Reactivity Profile
PROSULFOCARB is a thiocarbamate. Flammable gases are generated by the combination of thiocarbamates and dithiocarbamates with aldehydes, nitrides, and hydrides. Thiocarbamates and dithiocarbamates are incompatible with acids, peroxides, and acid halides.
