Synthesis

Synthetic route of (2-CHLOROBENZYL)TRIPHENYLPHOSPHONIUM CHLORIDE HYDRATE

(1) Synthetic route of (2-CHLOROBENZYL)TRIPHENYLPHOSPHONIUM CHLORIDE HYDRATE 1 mmol of 2-chlorobenzyltriphenylphosphine and 1.6 mmol of triphenylphosphine were dissolved in 20 mL of acetone and stirred under reflux at 65–70 °C for 24 hours. During this period, a white precipitate was formed. After natural cooling, the mixture was filtered and the filter cake was washed with a small amount of acetone and diethyl ether to remove impurities and accelerate drying. Then, it was dried under vacuum to obtain 2-chlorobenzyltriphenylphosphine bromide with a yield of 79.3%. Infrared spectroscopy analysis: IR (cm-1): (benzene ring C-H): 3053; (CH2): 2925, 2884; (C=C): 1587, 1432; (C-P): 1111; (2) 1 mmol of the obtained 2-chlorobenzyltriphenylphosphine bromide and 0.45 μL of CuCl2·2H2O were added. mmol was dissolved in 15 mL of methanol, and then 0.5 mL of hydrochloric acid was added. The mixture was stirred continuously and heated under reflux for 0.5 h. After natural cooling, it was filtered. The filtrate was allowed to stand and evaporate naturally. After 2 weeks, light green crystals precipitated, which was the product, with a yield of 68.0%.

(2-Chlorobenzyl)triphenylphosphonium Chloride is a reagent in Wittig reaction with imidazolecarboxaldehyde to synthesize elevel 4-(5)arylethenylimidazoles.
