2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzene-1-carbonyl chloride is a byproduct of the preparation process for 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzoic acid. In this process, 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzoic acid is prepared by refluxing the filtrate with thionyl chloride and dehydrating it with organic solvents. The amide product (2-chloro-6-fluoroaniline) is then reacted with an appropriate methylphenyl or methoxyphenyl to produce 2-Chloro-6-fluorobenzene-1-carbonyl chloride.
