2.3.2 Synthesis of 2,6-dibromo-4-methoxyaniline (B) Compound 2,6-dibromo-4-methoxyaniline was synthesized using the method reported in literature [15] with slight modifications. The procedure was carried out as follows: bromine (4.9 mL, 95.48 mmol) was slowly added dropwise to a methanol:dichloromethane (50:40 mL) mixture of p-anisidine (5 g, 40.63 mmol) to the reaction system under ice-bath conditions, and the dropwise addition process was controlled to be completed within 30 min. The reaction mixture was continued to be stirred in an ice bath and subsequently moved to room temperature and stirred overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was transferred to a 500 mL beaker and subjected to solvent evaporation in a fume hood. When the solvent volume was reduced to about 40 mL, white needle-like crystals were observed to precipitate. The crystals were collected by filtration and washed with a small amount of cold methanol and subsequently dried in air. Finally, 22.5 g of the target product was obtained in about 75% yield.
