Chemical Propertiesclear colourless to slightly yellow liquid
UsesPhthalan s a benzofuran compound participating in a variety of organic reactions. It is used in the arylation of tetrahydroquinolines and isochromans, as well as the oxidation and amination of benzylic sp3 C-H bonds.
SynthesisEt3SiH (4 equiv) was added to a stirred solution of 2-hydroxychalcone derivative (0.5 mmol, 1 equiv) and InCl3 (0.5 ) in anhydrous acetonitrile (2.5 mL). equiv) in a stirred solution in anhydrous acetonitrile (2.5 mL). Reflow the reaction mixture. Add water to the reaction mixture. Extract the reaction mixture with dichloromethane. Wash the combined organic layers with brine. Dry the combined organic layers with anhydrous Na 2 SO 4 . Concentrate the layers under vacuum. The reaction was carried out by silica gel column chromatography (petroleum ether/ethyl acetate = The resulting solution was purified by silica gel column chromatography (petroleum ether/ethyl acetate= 50:1) to afford 1,3-dihydroisobenzofuran.
