| | D-DELTA-TOCOPHEROL Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | clear yellow to brownish viscous liquid | | Uses | One of the naturally occurring forms of Vitamin E. Isolated from soybean oil. | | Uses | (+)-δ-Tocopherol has been used as a reference material for its extraction from oil using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). It has also been used as a standard to quantify δ-tocopherol in soybean using reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. | | Definition | ChEBI: Delta-tocopherol is a tocopherol in which the chroman-6-ol core is substituted by a methyl group at position 8. It is found particularly in maize (corn) oil and soya bean (soybean) oils. It has a role as a plant metabolite and a food antioxidant. It is a vitamin E and a tocopherol. | | General Description | δ-Tocopherol, a homolog of vitamin E, is a phytochemical with potent antioxidant activity. It has been investigated for its potential medical, biological, and physio-chemical applications. | | Biochem/physiol Actions | Tocopherols (TCP) (vitamin E) are a series (α, β, γ and δ) of chiral organic molecules that vary in their degree of methylation of the phenol moiety of the chromanol ring. Tocopherols are fat soluble anti-oxidants that protect cell membranes from oxidative damage. δ-T is methylated at the 8-position. It has an anticancer property. δ-T is involved in proinflammatory response initiated by reactive oxygen species. It lowers lipid accumulation and promotes neuronal differentiation. δ-T also has antiangiogenic and natriuretic activities. | | Synthesis | 100g of mixed tocopherol concentrate containing 40.5% was added to 500ml of 95% ethanol, cold dialysis and filtration, at room temperature on the resin adsorption column (φ50mm*600mm), filled with strong alkaline ionic resin, model PA306S, particle size of 60-100 mesh, the resin was transformed, the height of the resin layer was 300mm, the resin volume (BV) was about 0.6L. After the adsorption, the resin was rinsed with 1.5L (2.5BV) of 95% ethanol to remove the unadsorbed impurities, and then desorbed with 2.4L of 0.01-0.05mol/L carbon dioxide ethanol solution to collect the first effluent, and then recovered the solvent and distilled to obtain 34.5g of mixed tocopherols, in which the total content of tocopherols was 93.5%, and the relative content of d-δ-tocopherol monomers was 28.5%, and the relative content of tocopherol monomer was 28.5%. d-δ-tocopherol monomer relative content of 28.3%. Then it was desorbed with 1.2 L of 0.15-0.2 mol/L ethanol solution of carbon dioxide, the second effluent was collected, and the solvent was recovered to obtain 6.4 g of d-δ-tocopherol monomers, of which the total tocopherol content was 91.3%, the relative content of d-δ-tocopherol monomers was 89.6%, and the yield of total tocopherol was 94.1%.
