| | 1-PHENYL-3-METHYL-3-PENTANOL Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | 1-PHENYL-3-METHYL-3-PENTANOL has not
been found in nature. It is a colorless liquid with a delicate peony, slightly fruity
odor. Phenylethyl methyl ethyl carbinol can be prepared from benzylacetone and
ethylmagnesium chloride by a Grignard reaction. It is used to perfume soaps, cosmetics,
and detergents. | | Chemical Properties |
1-Phenyl-3-methyl-3-pentanol has a warm, rose-like odor and a fruity, green taste. The low vapour pressure of 3-Methyl-1-Phenyl-3-Pentanol may tempt the observer to think it is a weak odour, but it is certainly not. Its power is also demonstrated in flavours, where trace of about 1 ppm is perceptible with warm-fruity notes. Its fixative effect is also utilized in various fruit complexes, and the concentration in finished products is normally as low as 0.2 to 0.8 ppm.
