TRANS-CYCLOBUTANE-1,2-DICARBOXYLIC ACID can be prepared from adipic acid via a four-step reaction to obtain 1,2-cyclosuccinic acid, which is then heated in hydrochloric acid to yield pure TRANS-CYCLOBUTANE-1,2-DICARBOXYLIC ACID.
