Azoxybenzene 16 (65.4 mg, 0.33 mmol) was treated with DMAP salt 9 (540.2 mg, 1.0 mmol) and sodium hydride (48.0 mg, 2.0 mmol) in dry DMF (5 mL) at room temperature under UV light for 18 h to afford azobenzene 17 (11 mg, 0.06 mmol, 18%) and 1,2-diphenylhydrazine 18 (44 mg, 0.24 mmol, 73%). NMR spectra details as above.
