2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid synthesis

5synthesis methods
2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid is commercially produced by the condensation of 2,4,5-trichlorophenol with monochloroacetic acid under alkaline conditions to form the phenoxyacetic acid structure. The process typically involves heating 2,4,5-trichlorophenol with sodium hydroxide to generate the phenoxide ion, which then reacts with monochloroacetic acid to yield 2,4,5-T. The crude product is neutralised, purified by crystallisation or acidification.
