Reference Example 6; 4-methoxy-2-phenyl-l , 3-thiazole-5-carbaldehγde; (step 1); A solution of benzenecarbothioamide (50 g) and diethyl bromomalonate (95.6 g) in ethanol (350 mL) was refluxed with heating for 2 hrs, and the mixture was cooled to room temperature. The precipitate was filtrated with cold ethanol. The filtrate was concentrated and the precipitate was filtrated with cold ethanol . This operation was done twice to give ethyl 4-hydroxy-2-phenyl-l, 3-thiazole-5-carboxylate (79.8 g, 88%) as pale-yellow crystals.
