31 Step 2: Preparation of (E)-methyl 3-(3-methoxy-4-propoxyphenyl)acrylate
General procedure: After dissolving 0.5 g (2.4 mmol) of methyl ferulate prepared in step 1 in 6 ml of dry acetone, 0.4 g (2.9 mmol) of anhydrous K2CO3 was added. After adding 0.26 ml (2.6 mmol) of 1-iodopropane, the mixture was heated and stirred at 60° C. for 3 hours. The mixture was cooled, extracted with diethyl ether, dried over MgSO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification by column chromatography (hexane: ethyl acetate = 1:1) was carried out to obtain (E)-methyl 3-(3-methoxy-4-propoxyphenyl)acrylate. Light yellow solid (30%);
