To a solution of 3 (1 mmol) in ethanol (20 ml) was added 5 (1 mmol). The reaction mixture was refluxed for 3 h. The progress of reaction was monitored with the help of TLC. When the reaction was complete, solvent was evaporated to reduce the volume, which was neutralized by sodium bicarbonate and extracted with ethyl acetate (3 × 20 ml). The combined organic extracts were dried over anhyd. sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated to give 6.
