Steps:
2.1 Step 1 - Synthesis of (Z)-1,4-dichlorobut-2-ene
To an ice-cooled solution of (Z)-but-2-ene-1,4-diol (150 g, 1.7 mol) was added thionyl chloride (250 mL) over 40 mm. The resulting mixture was warmed to 20 °C. After 16the reaction mixture was diluted with water (500 mL), and the resulting mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (2 L). The collected organic was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated to give product as a brown oil (180 g, 84% yield).
