General procedure: A mixture of phenol (0.45 g, 5 mmol), trifluoromethanesulfonyl chloride (0.8 mL, 7.5 mmol) and Et3N (1.4 mL, 10 mmol) in THF (30 mL) was stirred at 0 °C for 24 h. The solvent was evaporated and to the resulting residue were added H2O (20 mL) and EtOAc (20 mL). The organic phase was decanted and dried (anhyd Na2SO4). Evaporation of the solvent and purification by column chromatography on silica gel (hexane/EtOAc, 4:1) gave the pure triflate in 85% yield (191 mg).
