The commercial production of propiconazole involves a multi-step chemical synthesis that typically begins with ethanone-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl), which undergoes condensation with 1,2-pentanediol to form a dioxolane intermediate. This intermediate is then brominated in dichloromethane to produce a bromomethyl derivative, which finally undergoes nucleophilic substitution with a sodium triazole salt in dimethyl sulfoxide at elevated temperatures to yield propiconazole.

Steps:

1.2 2) Synthesis of 1-[2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-4-propyl-1,3-dioxolane-2-methyl]-1hydro-1,2,4triazole :

Add 125g of (2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1-ethanone obtained in the previous step into the four-neck flask,Then add 500g of cyclohexane,Catalyst p-toluenesulfonic acid,65g of 1,2-pentanediol,Warm up to reflux,Reflux for 8h,After the response is qualified,Add 300g of water to the reaction for washing,Stratification,Oil phase negative pressure desolventizing,Obtain 1-[2-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-4-propyl-1,3-dioxolane-2-methyl]-1hydro-1,2,4triazole or propane Azole 163.6g,The content is 99.2%,The yield was 98.9%.
