Photopysis products of eight substituted diphenyl
ethers (preforan, nitrofen, MC-338, MC-4379,
MC-3761, MC-5127, MC-6063, and MC-7181)
irradiated by a Raryonette reactor in solutions of
water, cyclohexane, and methanol indicates that the
major reaction pathways of these biphenyl ethers
include reductive dehalogenation, decarboxyalkylation,
reduction of nitro substituents to amines, and cleavage
of the ether linkage to yield phenols.
