Thiazole 2-bromo-4-thiazolium carboxylic acid is a key intermediate in the synthesis of thiabendazole.

Synthesis

Ethyl 2-aminothiazole-4-carboxylate was synthesized solvent-free from thiourea and ethyl bromopyruvate as reagent, then ethyl 2-bromothiazole-4-carboxylate was obtained by high-temperature diazotization with DM SO and sodium nitrite, and finally the target 2-bromo-4-thiazolecarboxylate was obtained by saponification with potassium carbonate-methanol solution
