Chemical Properties 2-Methoxybenzoic acid ethyl ester is a colorless, slightly viscous liquid. B.P. approximately 254℃. Sp.Gr. 1.11.
Uses 2-Methoxybenzoic acid ethyl ester is used in perfumery for its heavy-floral and warm effects in Hyacinth, Cananga, Ylang-Ylan, Orange blossom, Wistaria and many other floral complexes. It creates interesting complexes with Coumarin derivatives.
Preparation 2-Methoxybenzoic acid ethyl ester is produced by Methylation of Ethyl salicylate.
Solubility in organicsSoluble in alcohol and oils, poorly soluble in Propylene glycol.
