Uses

Bis(cyclohexanone) oxaldihydrazone is used in the quantitative spectroscopic determination of copper. It is also essential for the experimental study of mitochondrial metabolism. It is used to study the human demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and components of neuroinflammation. Further, it acts as ligand and catalyzes Ullmann-type C-N bond forming reactions in the presence of copper salt.

ChEBI: Cuprizon is an organooxygen compound and an organonitrogen compound. It is functionally related to an alpha-amino acid.

Biological Activity

Bis(cyclohexanone)oxaldihydrazone (Cuprizone) is a copper chelator. It results in oligodendroglial cell death, thereby leading to demyelination, astrogliosis and microglia activation. Cuprizone is widely used to study mitochondrial dysfunction-associated primary demyelination and remyelination in the corpus callosum.

Safety Profile
