PreparationThe precipitation method uses sodium hydroxide, isooctanoic acid, and zinc sulfate as raw materials to prepare Ethylhexanoic acid zinc salt through saponification and metathesis reactions. The first step in the precipitation method is to prepare sodium soap, i.e., sodium hydroxide reacts with isooctanoic acid to produce sodium soap (sodium isooctanoate). The chemical equation for this reaction is as follows: RCOOH + NaOH = RCOONa + H2O Where: R is CH3(CH2)3CH(C2H5) After the saponification reaction is complete, zinc sulfate solution is used for displacement to produce Ethylhexanoic acid zinc salt. The chemical equation for this reaction is as follows: 2RCOONa + ZnSO4 = Zn(RCOO)2 + Na2SO4 Where: R is CH3(CH2)3CH(C2H5) Synthesis steps: A certain amount of isooctanoic acid and sodium hydroxide solution are added to a reactor, stirred, and heated to a certain temperature for saponification. Then, a certain amount of mineral oil and zinc sulfate solution are added, and the reaction is carried out under thorough stirring. After the reaction is complete, allow the mixture to stand and separate into layers. Separate the lower aqueous phase, then wash the upper oil layer 2-3 times with hot water and analyze the zinc content in the washing solution. The upper oil phase is then dehydrated by vacuum distillation to obtain Ethylhexanoic acid zinc salt. The zinc content is determined, and the yield of the corresponding Ethylhexanoic acid zinc salt is calculated.

It is an auxiliary drier used as pigments dispersing agent and prevents the paint film from webbing and frosting effects. It is involved in the preparation of highly porous dentritic zinc oxide nanostructures.
