Fmoc-Glycinol is an Fmoc protected amino alcohol. Fmoc-Glycinol is used in the preparation of amphiphilic lactosides.

GENERAL STEPS: A tetrahydrofuran (600 mL) solution of 2-aminoethanol (30 g, 491 mmol) was added to a 2000 mL round bottom flask, followed by 9-fluorenylmethyl-N-succinimidyl carbonate (166 g, 491 mmol) and triethylamine (199 g, 1.97 mol). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: ethyl acetate/petroleum ether mixed solvent) to afford 2-(N-fluorenylmethoxycarbonylamino)ethanol (130 g, 93% yield) as a white solid.
