| Chemical Properties | Off-White Crystals | | Uses | 3-Bromopyridine-2-carbonitrile is a biochemical reagent that can be used as a biological material or organic compound for life science related research. | | Synthesis | Example VIII Synthesis of 3-bromo-2-cyanopyridine: 3-bromopyridine 1-oxide (22 g; 0.12 mol), trimethylcyanosilane (45 ml; 0.36 mol) and triethylamine (33 ml; 0.24 mol) were dissolved in acetonitrile (120 ml) and heated to reflux the reaction for 4 hours. After completion of the reaction, the reaction solution was concentrated and the residue was poured into 3N sodium carbonate solution. The aqueous phase was extracted with dichloromethane, the organic phases were combined and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the crude product was obtained after concentration. The crude product was recrystallized by hexane/ethyl acetate (3:1) mixed solvent to give 17 g of white solid in 79% yield.
