| | Tetrafluoro-1-propanol Usage And Synthesis |
| Chemical Properties | colourless liquid | | Uses | 2,2,3,3-Tetrafluoro-1-propanol, is used as an essential fluorinated fine chemical, the main application of TFP is as a dye solvent in CD-R(W) and DVD-R(W) industry. It is also used in making textile treatment agent and pharmaceuticals. This chemical is an ideal replacement for Freon 22 detergent. | | General Description | 2,2,3,3-Tetrafluoro-1-propanol (TFP) is extensively used as the solvent. Mineralization and defluoridation of TFP by UV oxidation in a novel three-phase fluidized bed reactor was reported. Desorption of activated carbon loaded with TFP by supercritical carbon dioxide in a rotating packed bed was investigated. | | Synthesis | Methanol and diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate are preformulated into a solution and stored in a storage tank, and tetrafluoroethylene is stored in another storage tank, the flow rate of the metering pump is set to be 38g:95g:370g for diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate: methanol: tetrafluoroethylene, and the materials are respectively passed into the through-passing preheating module, and the preheating of diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate, methanol is at 20C for 10s, and tetrafluoroethylene is at 70C for 60s. Preheating 60s at 40, the mixed solution of methanol and diisopropyl peroxydicarbonate was pumped into the heart-shaped mixing module of the micro-mixer with a metering pump to be mixed, the mixed material was then passed into the heart-shaped reaction module, and mixed with tetrafluoroethylene to be polymerized at 40 for 30 seconds, the reaction product flowed into the distillation reactor, and the distillation was carried out, and the fraction with the boiling point at 109~110 was collected, which gave us 2,2,3,3-tetrafluorine Propanol 466 g. The yield of 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol was calculated as 95%. | | Purification Methods | Tetrafluoro-1-propanol (450mL) is added to a solution of 2.25g of NaHSO3 in 90mL of water, shaken vigorously and set aside for 24hours. The fraction distilling at or above 99o is refluxed for 4hours with 5-6g of KOH and rapidly distilled, followed by a final fractional distillation. [Kosower & Wu J Am Chem Soc 83 3142 1961.] Alternatively, shake the alcohol with alumina for 24hours, dry it overnight with anhydrous K2CO3 and distil it, taking the middle fraction (b 107-108o).
